Until 2019, she was the Director of Political and Economic Research at the Kyiv School of Economics. Before 2010, Ilona worked in the banking sector, analyzing market and risk factors. She has experience in authoring research on various topics, including Ukrainian and global economics, and social policy.

From 2003 to 2010, she taught econometrics at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
